Please Do Not Use Phosphorus Near The Lake

posted Mar 22, 2014, 10:10 AM by Carl Smith

Please do not use phosphorus containing fertilizers on lawns or plants near the lake. They contribute to the accelerated growth of algae, which also hurts the fish population. Look for fertilizers that have a zero in the three digit number that appears on the fertilizer bag.  Example 24 - 0 - 10, is 24% nitrogen, 0% phosphorus, and 10% potash. Most soils in the midwest have enough phosphorus anyway. Please avoid the use of phosphorus containing fertilizers. Thank you.
